Evaluation: GFK-NOP Quantitative data collection

GfK NOP are responsible for collecting data from users, carers and health/care professionals via self completion questionnaires and some telephone interviews.

Who are we surveying?

  • Patients/users who have received an information prescription
  • Carers of those who have received an information prescription
  • Carers who have received an information prescription
  • Healthcare professionals who have given out an information prescription.

The survey data will play an important role in assessing the impact of Information Prescriptions in the sense of providing people with sufficient information to help them in the self-management of their condition.

How?

Data will be collected mainly via self-completion questionnaires.  Patients/user and carers will receive a paper questionnaire (with the option of carrying out the survey via the web) while health/care professionals will be sent a secure link to a web survey.  Some telephone interviews will also be offered

We are conscious that a one-size-fits-all approach may not be appropriate across the 20 diverse pilot sites in terms of the distribution of the questionnaires.  We therefore plan to agree a tailored strategy for each site to ensure the right balance between robust survey data and the needs of the user group.

We will be conducting some qualitative work in a small number of sites to help inform the questionnaire design.  We are aiming to carry out this work across a range of different settings but please be aware that not all sites can be selected for inclusion in this phase.

Here are the questionnaires that were used for the first round of the survey work in August and September 2007.

Also the questionnaires used in the second round in November 2007.

What you will need to supply GfK NOP with for our 'ideal' strategy

  • Honorary contract
  • Patient/user, carer and health/care professional contact details

We will agree an approach for each site.
